FREE Stranger Danger Seminar this Saturday!

     This Saturday, May 7th is going to be action-packed! At 10:00 am we've got our Kids' Safety and Stranger Danger Seminar at the Dojo, which is FREE for all San Clemente kids ages 4 to 12. A representative from the Orange County Sheriff's Department will be there to give a presentation on Child Safety and to pass out free Child ID and DNA kits to parents.
    After that, we'll take over and teach all of the kids some simple and effective defensive techniques that have been specially designed to be used by a child against a bigger and stronger attacker. All of the kids will get to practice and apply learned techniques in a fun and safe environment. We have a limit of 40 kids so be sure to be on time and CLICK HERE to reserve your child a spot. Bring your friends, family, neighbors, and classmates because this seminar could save your child's life!

Congratulations, Competitors!

    Congratulations to everyone who competed in Saturday's in-house Dojo Tournament! Our awesome students had the opportunity to sharpen their skills, their family and friends got the chance to see how much they've all grown as martial artists, and everyone had a lot of fun! There were some incredible forms and some amazing sparring and grappling matches, and although trophies were awarded to the top three finishers in each division, we were most impressed by the fighting spirit, sportsmanship, and effort we saw from everybody. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the competitors and make the whole event so cool, and a special thanks to our volunteers who came to help us set up, tear down, and everything in between.

    We hope everyone had a great time at the 2011 Dojo Tournament and was able to take something away from it that will help them improve their training. Dojo Tournament this Saturday!!!

   The Dojo Tournament is just days away and it promises to be a whole lot of fun for competitors and their families alike. We've posted up the divisions and the event schedule in the the Dojo so you can find out what time your events begin. Divisions are split up by age and rank, and they are as follows:

Tiny Tigers (Pee-Wee students ages 3-4)
Lil Dragons (Pee-Wee students ages 5-6)
Leopards (Low rank Juniors)
Cobras (High Rank Juniors)
Big Tigers (Low rank Teens)
Big Dragons (High rank Teens)

    The Tiny Tigers, Lil Dragons, and Leopards divisions all have events that start at 10:00 am. For the older and higher ranking students; Cobras, Big Tigers, and Big Dragons; events don't begin until 11:35 am. It is very important that all students arrive ON TIME for their events to avoid being disqualified. We recommend that students plan on arriving a few minutes early to warm up, stretch, and find their rings. When you do come in early, please be courteous and respectful of the competitors and spectators of events that are still in progress when you arrive. 

    All students must wear their full Gi and Belt in order to compete. For sparring events, all competitors must wear full protective gear, including a fitted mouth guard, head gear, shin guards, gloves, and a protective cup for boys. For grappling events, competitors must wear a mouth guard.

    Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division, but we would like to stress that the outcome of each event is not what matters most; what matters most is that the students get the chance to improve their martial arts skills and to learn about setting and achieving goals. As instructors, our goal is for all competitors to leave happy after a fun day at the Dojo and for them and their parents to have a better idea about what they can do to continue to improve as they work towards their next belts. 

    Be sure to pick up your competitor and spectator tickets at the front desk before Saturday and to have them handy when you come in for the tournament. And don't forget your cameras! 

Updated Events!

    Getting into April, there's a lot going on! We've got a lot of fun and excitement this spring, enough to carry us all the way to summer! Despite the busy schedule, we still have some summer openings for Saturday Dojo Birthday parties! See an Instructor for more info.

Saturday, April 16^th, 10:00 am - Dojo Tournament. An in-house Sparring, Grappling, and Forms Tournament right here in our own Dojo for USSD SC students only! Kids gain confidence and self esteem, sharpen their technique, learn sportsmanship, and have fun with a little friendly competition. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each division. Sign-ups begin March 21^st and Registration for all 3 events is just $15! Ages 3-16. See your Instructor for more details.

Friday, April 22^nd, 6:00 pm - Adult/Teen Belt Test. Your Instructor will let you know if you'll be ready to test in April. Teen and Adult group classes cancelled the night of the test.

Saturday, April 23^rd, 12:30 pm - Kids Belt Test. Your Instructor will let you know if your child will be ready to test in April.

Saturday, May 7^th, 10:00 am - Kids Stranger Danger Seminar. A FREE seminar for kids to teach them how to recognize, avoid, and escape from danger. A representative from the Orange County Sheriff's Department will play a slide show for kids and their parents on the Amber Alert system and bring DIY DNA kits for emergency situations. We'll be teaching some fun, simple, and practical self defense techniques after the show. This events is FREE for all kids ages 3-12, so bring your friends, family, neighbors, and classmates!

Saturday, May 7^th, 2011, 7:00 pm - MMA FIGHT NIGHT. Another great night of Mixed Martial Arts Fights LIVE in the ring at the USSD National Training Center in Laguna Hills, Ca. Tickets go on sale April 8^th and can be purchased at the Dojo, from our fighters, online, and from some participating gyms and studios. A portion of the profits will be donated to the American Red Cross for emergency relief efforts in Japan. Sunday, June 5^th - The USSD Grand Championship Tournament. Time to defend our title after winning the Studio Championship trophy in December... Let's go for 2 in a row! Tournaments are a great chance for students to gain confidence and improve their speed, timing, accuracy, intensity, and overall technique to help them become better martial artists. Tournament competition is not mandatory in order to move up in rank but we HIGHLY recommend it as it benefits kids and adults alike in so many ways. This year the tournament will be held back at Soka University. Sign-ups begin in early May.

Saturday, June 18^th, 11:00 am - Open House & BBQ. Time for some family fun and some delicious Brazilian Bar-be-cue! Music, Student of the Year Awards, Raffle, Demonstrations by our Kids and Teen Demo Teams, and some exhibition MMA fights live in the ring! A fun way to get ready for summer and to celebrate all the hard work our students put in all year long. Friends and family are welcome to join us for this event.
