Can you believe it’s (almost) here already? Beach, barbecues, and of course, martial arts training to help give the summer months some structure and kids and adults some much needed stress relief and energy release! We’ve got our Summer 2016 Newsletter (see link above) coming out shortly, but until then, here’s the Summer scoop on what’s going on at the Dojo:

This Saturday (6/4) is our annual Summer Showdown from 11:00 to 2:00! The Summer Showdown is a Dojo BBQ Party, fully-loaded with all the summer essentials: tasty BBQ and drinks, music, a performance by the Kids Demo Team, Student of the Year Awards, Games, Raffle Prizes, and probably some more awesome stuff that I forgot. We need to get a good solid headcount before we order all the food, so if you RSVP at the Dojo by Wednesday, 6/1, adult wristbands for the BBQ and raffle are just $5 and kids 11 and under are FREE! For more info on the Summer Showdown, click here. We hope to see you there… You don’t want to miss it!

Throughout summer we’ll be running the Ninja Olympics during all regularly-scheduled youth group lessons. The Ninja Olympics consist of 7 different events, each designed to be a fun challenge for our students that will also help to sharpen their martial arts skills.

Students will spend some time during each Monday and Wednesday group lesson preparing for a specific event. During Friday and Saturday group lessons, we will have a set of challenges for that event to help us narrow down to our top 3 finishers from each class. Winners will receive Ninja Dollars which they can save and use to buy special patches for their Gis. The Ninja Olympic events are: Speed, Balance, Katas (forms), Flexibility, Sparring, Grappling, and Kicking. There is no need to sign up for any of these events and participation is free.

The Dojo will be closed on Monday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day! If you have a private lesson scheduled for this day, your instructor will reschedule it with you for another date.

And of course, it wouldn’t be summer without… (drumroll please)… Ninja Camp 2016: Power Up! Our annual, action-packed summer camp is the winner of the“Greatest Summer Camp of All Space and Time” Award for the 15th year in a row, as voted and decided by the Intergalactic Council for Summer Fun. But this isn’t your grandma’s summer camp. Yes, it’s a great time filled with exciting challenges and games, and campers will learn the value of effort, focus, teamwork, kindness, and respect, while building confidence, self-esteem, and new friendships. But what sets our camp apart is the strong focus on Bully Defense and how to survive in “Stranger Danger”situations.

Ninja Camp is more fun than a barrel of ninjas, but the lessons learned could end up saving your child’s life, and at the very least teaches campers how to stand up for themselves and others against bullying, while being inclusive and kind to one another.

Then there’s the Ninja Sleepover. Nuff said. (Click below to print your own registration form, or pick one up at the Dojo, and return no later than Saturday, 7/23).

And before the summer is through, we have the next Teen/Adult Belt Test tentatively scheduled for Friday, August 5th, and the Kids Belt Test scheduled for Saturday, August 6th. Your instructor will let you know if you’ll be ready for one of the August Tests.

After that, it’s back to school, but don’t worry, the fun won’t stop there. Between now and 2017, we’ve got plenty of great Dojo Family events, Tournaments, Belt Tests, Ninja Nights, and more!

For more information on any of our upcoming summer events or training programs, give us a call at (949) 361-9111, or shoot an email over to dojo@martialartsinsc.com.

Let’s make this another awesome summer at the Dojo, and we’ll see you at the Summer Showdown!
