Summer Dojo Vibes
On your mark... Get set... ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT UNTIL SCHOOL'S OUT! But somehow, it seems like there are 6 months-worth of activities packed into those last few days. Well, we didn't want to be left out of all the festivities to help ring the summer in, so we've added a few of our own! So buckle up and keep reading to stay on top of all the action coming up this month at the Dojo.
Congratulations to Isaiah L. and Boedy B., our May 2019 Students of the Month! Great work!
As you already know, the USSD Orange County Summer Grand Championship Tournament was cancelled on short notice, but don't worry! We've got you covered. We are holding our own in-house Spring 2019 Dojo Tournament on Saturday, June 8th, right here at the Dojo! Students of all ages in ranks will have one more opportunity before we head into summer to test their skills in fun and exciting Sparring, Katas (Forms), and Grappling events. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, we'll have a performance by our Demo Team AND a Dojo Family BBQ with a Taco Cart!

All summer long we'll be adding a little extra excitement to our kids classes with the 2019 Ninja Olympics! Each week of summer will have a different training theme, ending with a tournament-style competition every Friday. The different themes and competition dates are:
Speed - June 10 - 14
Balance - June 17 - 21
Kicking - July 8 - 12
Flexibility - July 15 - 19
Grappling - July 22 - 26
Katas (Forms) - July 29 - August 2
Sparring - August 5 - 9
The top 3 finishers in each challenge will win Ninja Dollars which can be used to buy special patches for their Gis. Since these challenges will be incorporated into regularly-scheduled Lil Dragons and Juniors group classes, students do not have to sign up or come in for any additional training in order to participate. Just one more way to keep things fun and FOCUSED during the summer months!
Of course, it wouldn't be summer without Bully Blockers Ninja Camp and the Ninja Sleepover! This year, Ninja Camp begins on Wednesday, July 31st and runs through Friday, August 2nd, from 8:00 am to noon each day. Everyone who registers for camp through the Dojo gets a free ticket to the party of the year, the Ninja Sleepover, on Saturday, August 3rd!
Students can sign up at the Dojo (there are still a few spots left!) and non-students can sign up online through the City of San Clemente's Summer Recreation Programs by Clicking Here (listed under "summer camps" and "martial arts"). This fun and action-packed summer camp could save your child's life! Click Here to learn more or print your own Bully Blockers 2019 registration form.
Don't forget to take a little time to rest and relax! The Dojo will be closed for summer break from Monday, June 24th through Saturday, July 6th. We will open and be back on regular schedule beginning on Monday, July 8th. Happy Independence Day!
And before we go, just a few important reminders for summertime at the Dojo:
First: If you plan on heading to the beach this summer (who wouldn't) be sure that you wash ALL of the sand from your body and hair before you come in to train. Sand on the mats makes training uncomfortable and unsafe for everyone, so please be considerate.
Next: If you or your child happen to get a sunburn, you can wear a rash guard underneath your Gi to prevent it from rubbing on your sore skin. And don't forget sunscreen!
And finally: If you plan on heading out of town before or after the Dojo summer break closure, please be sure and let your instructor know at least 24 hours ahead of time so we can reschedule your missed private lessons for when you get back and make sure that everyone has a partner to train with.
Have a great month and we'll see you in the Dojo!
